Roštejn Castle near Jihlava is a popular destination, as it stands in a beautiful forest with a historical branch. Our ambition in designing this exposition was to get a piece of forest inside the castle galleries, but without trying to imitate the forest, rather grasp the installation in an artistic way.
The tour starts by going through the installation of the forest - the visitor gradually passes through the art installations different forest layers - the emergent layer, canopy, the understory and the forest floor. Special areas include the inside of an anthill, where the visitor is reduced to an ant scale, and the installation of a night forest with nature, animals and authentic forest sounds at night. The refurbished Chapel of St. Eustach connects to the gallery dedicated to hunting and forest keeping. The dominate part of this area is a large showcase with hunting weapons, which complements the game, installed among trees, traps, hunting trophies and hunting culture.
At the end of the tour the visitor enters a blooming meadow in the botanical hall, lined with both the actual plants from the surroundings of Roštejn and those painted on the walls of the hall. The meadow offers a space for relaxation and exploration of the presented nature. In the middle of the hall there is a showcase with historical herbal drawings, complemented by display screens with explanations of wall paintings.
The exposition has the ambition to educate in a playful way and form the children visitors. In addition to classic text and image panels, information is provided in a fun form of interactive game elements and audio visual aids.
